Some time ago in Bali my friend Luisa, who looks after spas for the Four Seasons asked me if I’d be interested in recording a friend of hers, Fera, a former buddhist nun who was leading some sessions at the Four Seasons Sayan. Intrigued I said yes and duly turned up for a private session a few days later. I lay in a hammock while Fera played the singing bowl and chanted. I didn’t take much convincing after that! A discussion ensued about recording some of her treatments and yet I was curious about looking at some of the mantras which featured, but with specific musical backings designed for each one. The main challenge being to make each track interesting when all tempos and root notes were the same ( F#- the ‘Om’ frequency at which Fera’s singing bowl resonates). Massive thank-you’s to everyone involved in this project, with a big shout out to Greg Simmons for his brilliant input regarding the final mixes.
